Finding Uri by Sandy Munro

The following is an un-paid review of the book, Finding Uri by Sandy Munro. I was provided a complimentary copy of the book for review. All opinions of the book are mine and do not reflect those of the publisher or public relations firm.

As I mentioned in my blog post on receiving PR requests as a blogger, one of the best perks to the ‘job’ of blogging is the ability to review some great books. The book, Finding Uri by author Sandy Munro is one of those books.

I get, on average, 3 – 5 requests to review books every week. The majority of them I have to turn down or I’d do nothing other than read books for reviews. When I was contacted to review Finding Uri, I jumped at the chance for a few reasons. First, it was a story about a guy getting to know his dad through a series of letters between his father and mother. Second, the story of author Sandy Munro’s parents is set during one of America’s most trying times – World War II. Sandy’s father, Uri was a naval aviator flying off the famed aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Enterprise. The Enterprise was the most decorated ship of the second world war and the stories of the battles in the Pacific theater are among my favorite to read about. Having the opportunity to read a story set during WWII in the Pacific was an absolute thrill for me.

This book just seems to be like it has the possibility of appealing to such a wide variety of audiences. From the World War II buffs to general history consumers, love story addicts and personal memoirs readers, this book offers so much for each reader’s taste while at the same time telling a really fantastic and personally touching story.

Absolutely amazing story set during World War II between author Sandy Munro's mother and father who was a Naval Aviator serving on the U.S.S Enterprise in the war in the Pacific. It's got love, it's got first-person recounts of such a trying time in world history and it's got a human element that not many books carry.

Probably due to the nature and scope of what Sandy covers in the book, I found myself having to backtrack from time to time to recall names, places and details of the story. I can't imagine the complexity of having to sift through that many letters, piecing together not only a love story but attempting to parallel it to an order of battle follow the Enterprise through the Pacific. Absolutely amazing.
